Rootmap – A guide to eating ethically in Edinburgh
Rootmap is a beautifully illustrated map of where to find real food in Edinburgh and is celebrating its launch during the ‘Grand Finale’ month of Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink 2015.
The map is a guide for Edinburgh shoppers wanting to find places to eat and buy food from places that work hard to source the best local and sustainable ingredients and products. The Edinburgh Farmers’ Market is just one of a host of fantastic businesses featured.
Holly Maltby, the founder and co-director of the project, said: “We are thrilled that rootmap is being launched. It is so important for shoppers of any age to feel inspired and empowered to shop more ethically and locally. We wanted to create the map to be a guide and a creative catalyst to encourage us all to ask more questions about where our food is from.”
Scotland Food & Drink Project Manager Fiona Richmond added: “The Year of Food and Drink is a celebration of Scotland’s fantastic larder and the produce that has won us a deserving reputation as a Land of Food and Drink. It has come at a time when people are increasingly interested in where their food has come from; while buying local, seasonal food and drink offers a number of benefits ranging from supporting the local economy to enjoying produce at its tastiest and freshest. The new rootmap will be a helpful tool to enable consumers to source local products.”
